Liverpool’s should put all of their Champions League prize money towards the signing Jude Bellingham this summer.

According to the Liverpool Echo, The Reds are already set to earn almost £100m by reaching the Champions League final. Should they see off Real Madrid and lift the trophy, they’ll earn another £30m or so on top of that.

With FSG notorious in their sell-to-buy policy, this injection of cash should be put towards a marquee signing for Liverpool.

And who better than Bellingham? Liverpool could do with a new midfielder and the 18-year-old is a generational talent. It would be a huge statement of intent that The Reds are at the top and they’re here to stay.

Time to invest in the squad

In the past, Liverpool’s owners have put a lot of money into improving the infrastructure of the club. Anfield continues to be redeveloped and the AXA Training Centre has been erected to great fanfare.

Some supporters have questioned a perceived lack of action in the transfer market, but the club has grown immeasurably off the pitch.

Now that those developments are either completed or well underway, extra revenue should be pumped back into the playing squad.

Liverpool’s recruitment team is notoriously meticulous. They have signed some superstars in the making for sums that now look unbelievably low. But history shows that when they’ve got money to spend, they’re not afraid to spend it.

Take the summer of 2018 for example. As is the case this year, Liverpool reached the Champions League final then too.

Following the loss to Real Madrid, The Reds went out and spent around £160m on Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.

That proved transformative to the team and set Liverpool up for the success they have achieved since.

Why Bellingham

If Liverpool were to sign Bellingham this summer, he would likely cost somewhere in the parameters of £100m.

It may be that Liverpool can prepare to reach numerous Champions League finals over the next few years. That’s a completely unknown, though.

They should take the opportunity while they can to spend the extra cash on a player who is truly worth it.

At eighteen, Bellingham could play for a decade and more in Liverpool’s midfield. Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland called him ‘phenomenal’ via Football Daily. If he looks like the finished article already, and he pretty much does, he’s only going to get even better as the years progress.

As a prudent club who don’t spend beyond their means, Liverpool could miss out on their chance if they don’t go all in this summer.
