Report: Liverpool are about to suffer final blow on 'fabulous' forward they've been tracking for years

Liverpool are about to suffer the fatal blow in their Karim Adeyemi pursuit, according to reports. He’s a player they’ve tracked for a while.

It appears Liverpool won’t sign Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg. Kicker, verifying a report from Sport1, claim his move to Borussia Dortmund is now ‘imminent’, with only a few details needing to be sorted. The 20-year-old almost certainly returns to Germany this summer.

Adeyemi exploded onto the scene this season with some fantastic performances. He scored goals for fun in the Austrian Bundesliga, particularly in the first few months, and seriously caught the eye in the Champions League.

The young striker was always going to move this summer – the question was ‘where?’. Dortmund have looked like the answer for a few months now and it’s simply a matter of time at this point.

Liverpool miss out on Karim Adeyemi

Reports linking Liverpool to Adeyemi date back quite some time and have continued right up until the last few weeks. Sky Germany said only a week ago, in fact, that the Reds were still in talks.

Go back to September and Bild claim Liverpool had a move in the pipeline. Adeyemi was the be their investment, having tracked him quite intensely.

Goal say that Liverpool have scouted Adeyemi since 2018, after all. The Athletic say their interest goes back further, having had the youngster on trial all the way back in 2016 but couldn’t justify the asking price.

And while they may have liked the look of a deal at the start of the season, Adeyemi’s performances just consistently drove his valuation up. This will now be a major investment, rather than an exciting young player to take a chance on.

It’s understandable. Adeyemi earned rave reviews this season as his reputation grew, with the likes of Glenn Hoddle labelling him ‘fabulous’. He’s now a budding star and one Dortmund appear to have gone all-out for.

Liverpool will keep an eye on him, of course, but any transfer from here will cost an absolute fortune. The chance of a bargain superstar is gone.
