Liverpool transfer targets Gavi and Ronald Araujo have rejected new contract offers from Barcelona, according to reports. The door to Anfield is now open.

This comes from both Sport and Marca. The latter claims that both Gavi and Ronald Araujo – two players Liverpool reportedly want – have rejected new contract offers from Barcelona.

Significantly, Sport’s report suggests there will be no significant rise in those offers. Barcelona lack the wiggle room in their budget to offer more money, essentially making these final proposals.

Instead, the Catalonians hope that their project under Xavi will convince the duo to renew their contracts. ‘Sporting’ reasons over financial, then, as the duo enter the final year of their respective deals.

Catalunya Radio recently claimed that Liverpool had put a proposal to Araujo. Their report also lines up with what we’re hearing from elsewhere – that the proposal far outweighed that from Barcelona. The Reds, it seems, can offer a better overall package.

As for Gavi, journalist Gerard Romero believes Liverpool have been in touch there, too. He said as much on his Twitch stream before backing it up on Twitter.

Both players now know what they can get from Barcelona and it’s up to potential suitors to tempt them away. Liverpool don’t appear to be wasting any time on that front.

So would they be good signings? The short answer is ‘Yes’. Gavi, in particular, is one of the best young players in world football and there’s a clear partnership with Harvey Elliott if he wants it. Add in the financial gain and Liverpool might actually feel confident about that one.

The need for Araujo isn’t as clear. He’s a great young defender but Liverpool do currently have four elite centre-backs. We do believe they can make room for him but it certainly isn’t a simple one.

Both would be great signings, though, and if Liverpool can get them done at a discount, we say go for it.
