Harvey Elliott should be excited with reports that Liverpool want Barcelona youngster Gavi. The Reds’ youngster can consider him a dream teammate.

Gerard Romero said on his Twitch stream this week that Liverpool are ready to more for Gavi. He then followed that up with a Tweet suggesting that the Reds put a £5m-a-year offer on the table.

This comes after Mundo Deportivo named the Reds as one of several suitors for Gavi. The player is technically simple to sign, after all.

Gavi’s release clause sits at £42m until June 30th. Pay that and you can offer the player a contract – Barcelona can’t do anything about it. But the clause doubles from July 1st, meaning teams are against the clock to secure a bargain here.

Liverpool appear to see it that way, if the Romero rumour is true. And that should be very exciting for one Harvey Elliott.

Harvey Elliott and Gavi at Liverpool

There’s little doubt that Elliott is the most promising young prospect at Liverpool. In fact, he’s one of the most promising young prospects period – Liverpool or otherwise.

We’ve also seen a change of role for him this season. Jurgen Klopp moved the youngster inside, operating on the right of a midfield three, rather than his original role on the wing.

Elliott has been a revelation in the role, with the data from his start to the season looking very special. He’s able to play between the lines, move Liverpool forward and using his fantastic technical ability to create in tight spaces.

It’s actually a very similar role to Gavi, who tries to do similar things for Barcelona. In fact, he’s so good at it that they can use him as a False 9 to great effect – unbelievable faith in a 17-year-old.

The idea of Liverpool using both of young players in midfield is a very exciting one, then. It would mean the Reds doubling down on Elliott’s style of play, utilising his skillset to dictate play from midfield.

It would also make him incredibly difficult to play again, given there’s another similar midfielder that opponents must watch. On top of it all, the two of them are still developing – they’d do so together, with the potential there for a sensational understanding.

So we think Elliott should be very excited, here. Gavi is, in a lot of ways, a dream teammate and it appears Liverpool want to make it happen.
