Liverpool must send ‘world-class’ player out on loan if they’re to sign La Liga star – RTK View

Liverpool must loan out Joe Gomez if they want to bring in Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. The Reds can have a very bright future.

It seems that Liverpool want to sign Ronald Araujo. That’s according to Catalunya Radio – though, links between the two have been around for some time.

But now the suggestion is that Liverpool have made a significant offer for the 23-year-old. Enough so that the outlet labels it a ‘multiple’ of Barcelona’s own offer to their player.

Xavi’s side risk losing Araujo in 2023 for nothing when his contract expires, hence Liverpool’s proposal. They’ll see an opportunity to bring him in on the cheap this summer, forcing Barcelona into a sale. At least, we imagine that’s the plan.

But that raises an interesting question. Liverpool already have four ‘world-class’ centre-backs, in Jurgen Klopp’s words, so why sign a fifth? We see one obvious positive in a long-term partnership alongside Ibrahima Konate. But things would certainly appear crowded for the time being.

And that’s why we think Joe Gomez could leave Liverpool. But it better only be on loan.

Joe Gomez and his Liverpool future

We love Gomez and consider him to be an elite centre-back. He’s just struggling to find consistent games at Liverpool right now, what with all the incredible talent at centre-back.

His awful injury in late 2020 – not the first of his career – has set Gomez back considerably. It was only two years ago, though, that he was a regular starter in a dominant, title-winning team. That player still exists.

But without regular football, Gomez isn’t going to maintain anything like that standard. Ideally, he’d gradually play more and more games over this season and the next, establishing himself once again. Both Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are past 30 now, after all – Gomez and Konate will take over their spots.

We could certainly see Matip stepping aside in 2023, for instance. In some ways, then, the Araujo move would come too soon – 2023 as a replacement for the Cameroonian would be perfection.

If it is to be this summer, though, then Gomez should be the one to make way. Not permanently but on loan, preferably within the Premier League. He desperately needs regular football right now in a team that can keep him on the right path. Liverpool can be that club in a year or two but likely not next season.

Gomez’s future remains very bright, though – if he gets what he needs.
