Divock Origi will complete an agreement on a move from Liverpool to AC Milan over the current international break.

This comes from Calciomercato. They report that the Belgian wants to ‘take advantage’ of the break to seal his move away from Anfield.

The report claims that the deal will be done over the next seven days and that the ‘countdown for Origi at Milan has started.’

Origi’s move to Milan looks to be something of an open secret. Fabrizio Romano confirmed yesterday that ‘talks are in progress.’ It seems that there are no other teams in the picture and the 26-year-old will finally leave Liverpool this summer.

Edging closer

Milan’s move for Origi has been rumbling for a little while. The Liverpool man reportedly impressed his prospective employers with his performances against them in this years Champions League.

Divock actually started both of Liverpool’s group games against the Italians. It may be a mere coincidence, but he gave an unusually impressive performance in both of those two games.

He was a surprise starter as The Reds ran out 3-2 winners at Anfield in September. After Liverpool had surrendered a lead just before half-time, Origi led the fightback with a lovely dinked through ball for Mohamed Salah to level the score.

Then, in the return game at San Siro, Origi was excellent as he buried the winner with a well directed header.

Maybe the Belgian was aware of Milan’s interest in him beforehand. Or maybe those two displays convinced the Italians that he was their man. Either way, it looks as though Origi will be wearing black and red next season.

A fitting farewell

Liverpool are still in the hunt for three further trophies this season. That could give Origi the perfect platform to add another moment to his list of iconic goals for Liverpool.

It had seemed almost inevitable that he would score the winner when he came off the bench in the 97th minute of the Carabao Cup final.

Instead, Origi had to settle for a penalty shootout goal.

But Liverpool could have bigger fish to fry between now and May. It would be a fitting farewell for the number 27 if he were able to fire them to one last trophy before his departure.

For now, Origi is still a Liverpool player. Although Jurgen Klopp has plenty of attacking options, he will still count on Divock to be a handy break-glass option off the bench.

The manager has always been a big fan of his player. Following a fantastic two-goal showing in the Merseyside Derby in 2019, Klopp called Origi ‘exceptional’ via liverpoolfc.com.
