Fabrizio Romano has confirmed reports that an agreement on Divock Origi’s Liverpool departure is imminent.

The transfer specialist reported on Twitter that ‘talks are in progress’ for the Liverpool striker to join AC Milan on a free transfer.

According to Romano, Origi is ‘more than tempted’ by Milan and a verbal agreement is hopeful of being reached ‘as soon as possible.’

Romano’s update isn’t the only one around Origi’s potential move. Milan News reported this afternoon that the Italian club are ‘advancing decisively’ on signing the Belgian.

They claim that new contacts are now expected to be made to complete the agreement. It looks as though Milan have fought off interest from other clubs and this one won’t have any trouble getting done.

Everybody wins

If Origi does manage to complete a move to the side currently top of Serie A, it will be a rare case of every party benefitting from a transfer.

Most importantly, it’s a great move for the player. Milan are a huge club and as their title challenge this season shows, they can compete for honours domestically.

After two seasons of barely playing, Origi may have expected to have to settle for joining a club lower down the football food-chain. But the seven-time European Cup winners are one of the few clubs on the planet who can match the history of success that Liverpool have.

For Liverpool, Origi will leave some incredible memories and moments. Labelled ‘outstanding’ by Jurgen Klopp via beIN SPORTS, the 26-year-old played a central role in some massive moments for the club.

It would have been nice for the club to have received a transfer fee from his sale. But as he is now some way down in Jurgen Klopp’s attacking roll-call, no one associated with the club will begrudge him leaving.

Finally, from Milan’s point of view, they’re getting a Premier League and Champions League winning striker for nothing. Origi is yet to turn 27-years-old and can still improve.

Divock has a good record of scoring goals despite his little playing time. He could turn out to be a brilliant bit of business for the Rossoneri.

Liverpool fans will watch on with his interest as he embarks on a new journey. His story with Liverpool has been peculiar at times, but laden with success.

All the best, Div!
