Divock Origi now looks certain to leave Liverpool after AC Milan accelerated their move to sign the Belgian. His contract expires in June.
This comes from TuttoMercatoWeb. They claim that AC Milan are all-in on Divock Origi and will accelerate their bid to sign him from Liverpool.
They hope to secure an agreement with Origi as soon as possible, in fact. Milan can do so as his contract expires at the end of the season and it’s said that they’re pretty big admirers of the player after facing him this season.
CalcioMercato claimed as much during the week. Paolo Maldini leads the charge, believing there’s a bargain signing here.
But there is an element of confusion here. Origi’s contract certainly expires in the summer but, per the Athletic, there’s a clause that can see Liverpool extend it. Should he play in enough Premier League games, another year is added to the deal.
Assuming that’s true, we don’t see how Milan could agree a pre-contract with him. Not until that clause officially can’t come into play, anyway. Perhaps there’s a way around it – they could strike a deal that comes into effect if the clause doesn’t activate – but it certainly asks questions of these reports.
Divock Origi to leave Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp considers Origi to be ‘incredible’ technically, while his goal record is far stronger than it first looks. That just goes to show how intense the competition is at Liverpool right now.

In fact, Klopp said after the Arsenal game that it was ‘a joke’ that he couldn’t find room for Origi in his squad. It’s hard to disagree with that.
Here’s a player with a good track record, who has delivered in far bigger games than most and is still only 26. Yet Liverpool appear likely to lose him on a free transfer.
We can’t imagine that clause – if it exists – is enacted, after all. This appears to be the end of Origi at Liverpool – a seven-year spell to remember.
