Harvey Elliott has said that it’s a ‘dream’ for him to play alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold on Liverpool’s right-hand side.
Speaking to UMM YouTube channel (3mins 2secs), Elliott was asked what it’s like to play with the iconic Salah.
“I love it, who wouldn’t love playing with Mo Salah,” said the 18-year-old. “In my opinion he’s the best in the world, alongside Trent as well on the right side, it’s a dream for any youngster.”
The trio combined to great effect earlier on in the season. Liverpool fans were left drooling over the prospect of the three players building their relationship over the long-term.
Dealing with setbacks
Unfortunately, the ankle injury Elliott suffered in September put paid to the burgeoning on-pitch relationship.
Since returning from the injury, Elliott has been used sparingly by Jurgen Klopp. The minutes that the manager has given the teenager have largely been in cup games.
That has meant that he has usually been on the pitch when both Salah and Trent have been given the day off.
Elliott even did his best Salah impression last weekend, as he started in the right of Klopp’s front three.
He was ably supported by the impressive Joe Gomez, but it wasn’t the same as watching two of England’s most promising players linking up.
Future plans
It remains to be seen whether Klopp plans to use Elliott as part of his first-choice midfield three next season.
Liverpool have been rumoured to be in the market for a midfielder ever since Gini Wijnaldum departed last summer.
Whether that’s true or not may hinge on if Klopp thinks Harvey is ready to take on a bigger role. His use of the 18-year-old at the start of this season suggests that, as long as he stays injury free, Elliott has a big part to play.
Reds’ fans will be hoping that with all the uncertainty around Salah at present, we haven’t seen the last of this incredibly talented right-sided trio.
