Liverpool will have to pay at least £25m to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino this summer.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, that’s the price that the Italian club have named for any prospective buyers, including Liverpool.
However with teams such as Bayern Munich, Milan, Inter, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the player, Torino will reportedly ‘sell to the highest bidder.’
The report claims that Inter in particular are keen to land the Brazilian. Bremer underlined their interest in him with a goal against the Milan club last weekend.
A fair price for Bremer
It isn’t often that you see reasonable prices being quoted for players like Bremer. The centre-back is obviously a player with great potential.
The presence of English clubs can also lead to a player’s price sky-rocketing. But in this instance, £25m appears to be a fair price.
Bremer is still just 24-years-old. Now into his third season as a key player for Torino, he has played over 100 times for the Serie A side.
Although he has no experience in competitions such as the Champions League, it’s clear that he has the quality to play at a higher level.
Compared to the £35m that Liverpool paid RB Leipzig for Ibrahima Konate, it seems reasonable enough.
For comparison Konate had played 95 times across all competitions when Liverpool bought him last summer. However, the Frenchman had Champions League experience as well as being a key part of France’s under-21 squad.
He was also just 21-years-old. As Bremer is a little older, he is closer to his peak and could potentially fetch a bigger fee. All things considered, it doesn’t sound a bad price at all.
Like for like
Whether Liverpool need a new centre-back or not very much depends on your opinion on if Joe Gomez has a future with the club.
There are some that will feel that Liverpool should cash in on a player who has started just one Premier League game this season.
Others will no doubt wish to be patient with the number 12, who has still yet to turn 25.
That’s a decision for Liverpool’s recruitment team to make this summer. As his contract runs out in 2024, Liverpool have to decide whether to stick with Gomez or not.
Half the Premier League are reportedly interested in signing the Liverpool man (90min). As The Reds could likely get more for Gomez than they’re reportedly being quoted for Bremer, it could make sense to do a straight swap for the two players in the squad.
Either way, Bremer is a player who has caught Liverpool’s attention in the past. Whilst referencing Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the player last December, Fabrizio Romano called the centre-back an ‘incredible’ player.
