Report: FSG set to make big change at Liverpool in April, they’re about to sign it off

FSG will finally sign off on a new ‘supporter’s board’ being implemented into Liverpool’s decision making processes.

An announcement about the creation of the board was made in December. But according to The Athletic, the ‘legal sign-offs’ that are needed to complete the process will be done by the start of April.

The report claims that the delay is due to the meticulousness of Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly (SoS).

The group has worked closely with the club to make this a reality. Largely made up of volunteers, they have been reportedly met with ‘no resistance’ from FSG.

But the volunteers wanted to ensure that every detail of the agreement is properly reviewed.

The Athletic report that the decision to have “meaningful fan representation on strategic issues at main board and executive levels” will be a legally binding agreement.

Furthermore, the agreement is with Liverpool FC rather than FSG. That means that should FSG sell the club, the fan representation wouldn’t be affected.

What does it all mean?

Essentially this means that Liverpool fans will have a voice on the board.

This is a huge move from FSG to make sure mistakes like joining the European Super League last spring don’t happen again.

Luckily, it looks like the Liverpool owners have no intention of reigniting that particular debacle.

It’s unclear how much weight will be given to the supporter’s views. Plenty of other factors will of course need to be considered when making business decisions.

But the fact that this agreement is being made a reality is a big step in the right direction.

The Liverpool owners have certainly made some errors during their near 12-year stay on Merseyside.

But in fairness to John Henry and co, they have always been quick to hold their hands up and listen to supporters.

This decision isn’t just and extension of that, it’s a meaningful move that will bring supporter’s closer to their club.

First item on the agenda then, how about a Jurgen Klopp lifetime contract?
