Andy Robertson has given a gushing review of Jordan Henderson’s role in Liverpool’s win over Inter Milan last night.

The Liverpool left-back gave his thoughts to LFCTV after the match. He was full of praise for how Jurgen Klopp’s substitutes changed the course of the game.

“The subs made a big difference tonight. I thought Bobby when he came on was excellent,” said Robertson.

The 27-year-oldthen singled out Henderson in particular for the way he helped Liverpool regain control of a difficult game.

“But Hendo (Henderson), Hendo was unbelievable when he came on,” Robbo continued.

“I can’t speak highly enough of his performance because we were under pressure when he came on. Naby made a big difference as well and Luis as well of course, but we brought on three subs and that’s the beauty of it.

“It kind of changed the game because we started getting a foothold in the game and I think that’s where credit has to go to Hendo because he got hold of the ball, he took the game by the scruff of the neck which is never easy coming off the bench, I thought he was terrific tonight”

Super-subs

Klopp’s triple substitution was a pivotal moment in the game. Liverpool were coming under constant pressure from Inter. It looked like a matter of time before Alisson’s goal would be breached.

But in bringing on Henderson, Luis Diaz and Naby Keita just before the hour mark, the tide of the game turned almost instantly.

It could be argued that either Keita or Henderson should have started the game.

But Klopp placed huge trust in 18-year-old Harvey Elliott instead. While obviously an incredibly gifted young player, the game passed him by a little.

Henderson’s calmness on the ball and Keita’s ability to beat his man made Liverpool look like a different prospect.

Meanwhile Luis Diaz’s pace visibly unsettled the Inter back line.

Henderson in particular would have been disappointed not to have started at the San Siro. The 31-year-old wants to play in every game for Liverpool and these Champions League nights are the most presitgious of all.

But it just goes to show the benefit in having quality players coming off the bench.

Klopp now has a deep squad with class throughout. It won’t be the last time Liverpool are saved by their bench this season, and that is definitely a good thing.
