Liverpool legend Jan Molby sees real similarities between Harvey Elliott and Manchester City great, David Silva. The Reds have someone special.
Harvey Elliott made his long-awaited return from injury as he got on for Liverpool against Cardiff City on Sunday. He looked sharp, too – and that was before he bagged his first goal for the club.
It was a fantastic goal, though. Elliott showed brilliant composure to bring down a cross and score on the spin, essentially wrapping the game up for Liverpool. That made it 3-0 and while Cardiff pulled one back, the Reds cruised into the next round.
Elliott looked impressive, then, and certainly caught the eye of Liverpool legend Jan Molby. The Dane was full of praise for the teenager this week and believes he can see a bit of David Silva there.
“I just thought that in many ways he reminds me of David Silva,” Molby told Anfield Index. “I remember when he was coming to the end of his career, I said ‘we’ll miss this boy’ because we might never see the likes again.
“But Harvey Elliott has very similar to what he had.”
Liverpool have something special in Harvey Elliott
Well, if Elliott ends up as good as Silva was, Liverpool will have a spectacular player. There’s little doubt about that.

There’s still a long, long way to go before we can make those comparisons properly but in truth, there’s a real chance Elliott does reach that level. We’d argue he’s more likely to get there than any other player in the Premier League, such is his incredible potential.
Stylistically, there are obvious similarities, especially as Elliott’s moved into midfield this season. He’s an agile, left-footed playmaker who wants to operate between the lines and create for teammates. That’s essentially the role Silva perfected at Manchester City.
Hopefully, Elliott can come close to doing so himself one day. Liverpool will certainly believe he can.
