Liverpool reportedly pushing for Fabio Carvalho transfer with 3 hours remaining

Liverpool will push to complete a late transfer for Fabio Carvalho, according to reports. The Fulham player is available.

This comes from Paul Joyce of The Times. He tweeted late on Monday evening that Liverpool still hope to sign Fabio Carvalho before the transfer window closes.

The window closes in just three hours, however, and this isn’t the simplest of transfers. As we explained here, Liverpool are trying to pull off some brilliant business – but they need Fulham on board.

The Cottagers are pushing for promotion and currently top the Championship. Carvalho is a player in sensational form and appears key to that push. Losing him now is surely out of the question.

And as Joyce says, they don’t plan to. Even if Liverpool secure a transfer, they’ll likely have to loan Carvalho back to Fulham for the rest of the season.

Is that worth it?

So here’s the situation. Carvalho is out of contract in the summer, meaning Liverpool could sign him for a tribunal fee. The current record fee is £4.3m from Liverpool to Fulham for Harvey Elliott.

But waiting for that will bring competition. Other English sides will almost certainly get involved, making things more difficult for Liverpool. If the Reds are trying to push this through with such little time remaining, it suggests they already have an agreement of sorts with Carvalho and no one else does.

Thus this is a unique opportunity for Liverpool. Miss out, however, and perhaps foreign clubs get involved. They won’t need to pay a tribunal fee and can actually sign Carvalho for nothing. It is in Fulham’s interest to accept a fee now, then, unless they believe a new contract can be secured.

And there are three hours to sort this. It isn’t easy, with a lot of different possible scenarios at play. Can Liverpool convince Fulham to cash-in now?
