Liverpool supposedly want Fabio Carvalho in the last hours of the transfer window. The 19-year-old would be fantastic business.
Sky Sports, among many others, believe Liverpool want Fabio Carvalho before the end of the transfer window. That deadline is in a few hours, of course – not exactly a lot of time.
Fabrizio Romano is another who pushes the claim. He adds that Fulham want to retain the player for the rest of the season, opening the door for a loan deal. And that’s just one part of a complicated transfer.
Liverpool want Fabio Carvalho transfer
This is a strange one. Carvalho is actually out of contract in the summer, which would naturally raise questions as to why Liverpool would offer a transfer fee now. But that’s because Liverpool can’t actually sign the teenager for free.
Because he developed at an English side, Liverpool would have to pay a tribunal fee for Carvalho at the very least. That means signing the player first and then a fee is decided by an independent commission. It’s exactly what happened with both Danny Ings and Harvey Elliott, in fact.
Romano claims Liverpool would want to pay around £5m to sign Carvalho now. The record tribunal fee is actually Elliott’s at £4.3m. It’s reasonable to assume that the now-Fulham player’s would be more, however, given it’s over two years on and Carvalho is far more established than Elliott was.

Liverpool, then, could secure some fantastic business here. They’re hoping to sign Carvalho for roughly what the tribunal fee would be and in doing so, beat the competition.
Because other English clubs will get involved for Carvalho. His form has been too good in recent weeks for that not to be the case.
It’s also in Fulham’s interest to accept. Foreign clubs don’t need to pay any tribunal fee and actually can sign Carvalho for nothing. Liverpool are offering a guaranteed fee right now – which is surely better than nothing. We think this suits everyone, then.
Liverpool get their man before there’s a fight and Fulham get a fee. Perfect business.
