Trent Alexander-Arnold put in another exceptional display last night. The right-back was, as usual, Liverpool’s key creator.
He set up both of Diogo Jota’s goals as Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0. The second assist in particular was a thing of beauty and typical Trent. Between them, he and Jota propelled The Reds to a Wembley Carabao Cup final.
After the game, Alexander-Arnold took to Twitter to post a slightly confusing message. “London is Red. See you at Wembley,” wrote the Scouser.
We see what he was going for. But “London is Red” is also a phrase used by Arsenal fans to assert the team’s dominance in their home city. As a result, some Arsenal fans on Twitter were in total agreement with the rival player who had orchestrated their defeat.
Well, it’s good to see you making friends, Trent!
Alexander-Arnold shines again
The two assists last night were Alexander-Arnold’s 13th and 14th in all competitions this season. That’s comfortably the most of any player playing at a Premier League club.
Jurgen Klopp waxed lyrical about the right-back’s display after the game.
He said to Liverpool’s official website: “I would probably have to watch it back again but he (Alexander-Arnold) was outstanding.
“Second goal, I don’t think a lot of people in the stadium saw Diogo Jota free, but Trent saw it, which helps, and then a proper finish.”
If it wasn’t for a certain Mohamed Salah it would be easy to envisage Trent scooping the end of season awards. The level he is showing week in week out is drawing praise from fans and pundits alike.
Without him, it’s unlikely Liverpool would have won the game last night. Let’s hope Trent is right and come February 27th, the day of the final, London truly is red.
