Jamie Carragher puts Trent Alexander-Arnold into his world XI after seeing his performance for Liverpool vs Arsenal. The Scouser was fantastic at the Emirates.

Liverpool went to North London needing a win on Thursday evening. They threw away a one-man advantage at Anfield a week ago, of course, drawing 0-0 in a game they should have won comfortably.

Fortunately, Liverpool were very comfortably vs Arsenal this time around. They limited a more aggressive Gunners side to next to no real chances while taking two of their own. Diogo Jota scored both with brilliant strikes.

But he wasn’t the only star to trouble Arsenal. Trent Alexander-Arnold, too, was magnificent from right-back, tearing the Gunners open and causing havoc all game.

In fact, he played key roles in both goals. Alexander-Arnold helped Liverpool carve through midfield ahead of Jota’s first, creating the space for him to run into.

He was even more heavily involved for the second. Alexander-Arnold played the cutting pass over the top for Jota to run onto – a fantastic, if typical, ball from the 23-year-old.

It was enough for Ian Wright to say that Alexander-Arnold was on a ‘different level’ in the game, along with Jota. But he wasn’t the only iconic ex-pro to hail the player.

Jamie Carragher hails Trent Alexander-Arnold

“Brilliant performance from [Liverpool],” Carragher wrote on Twitter. “No [Mohamed] Salah or [Sadio] Mane so you have to be better defensively, 3 big clean sheets in those games.

“Also, [Alexander-Arnold] will be in the world 11 I pick tomorrow night on Friday Night Football.”

Well, we certainly agree with that. Alexander-Arnold has played a big role in the clean-sheets, while providing ammunition going forward.

And quite honestly, he should make anyone’s World XI right now. There is no better right-back in world football and hasn’t been for some time. No one matches his attacking output, let alone also playing his part in one of the game’s tightest defences.

A truly world-class player who, miraculously, is only getting better.
