'High quality': £20m Manchester City man says two players Liverpool reportedly want to sign are excellent

Ilkay Gundogan has namechecked Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham as two players to keep an eye on.

The £20 million Manchester City midfielder was addressing his fans on Twitter using the hashtag #AskIlkay. One asked for his thoughts on the current Borussia Dortmund side.

“As always they have a lot of high quality players like Haaland, Bellingham & my two friends Marco Reus & Mats Hummels,” wrote the German international.

It’s interesting that Gundogan should highlight Bellingham in particular. As they play in the same position, the three time Premier League winner’s opinion certainly carries added weight in that department.

Bellingham more realistic for Liverpool

The Englishman is the player more likely to make the switch to Anfield. He is even claimed to be Liverpool’s “top priority” this summer (The Mirror).

His fee is also talked to be in the region of £100m (Eurosport). This would obviously be prohibitive to The Reds. But given that he’s only 18-years-old, he could become a mainstay in midfield for more than a decade.

Either way, we think Liverpool should go all out for Bellingham. As the draw against Arsenal last night showed, Jurgen Klopp badly needs some different midfield options. The Birmingham born youngster could become a mainstay for the next decade and the prospect of him lining up alongside the likes of Harvey Elliott is very exciting.

Haaland not out of the question

Of course Haaland would represent a dream signing for many fans. The Norwegian phenomenon is almost a guarantee of goals.

Sky Germany recently claimed that Liverpool were one of the teams in the running to activate his £63.9m release clause. This is good news but it still feels that his wage and agent demands may be out of reach.

But the fact remains that Klopp’s team could be attractive for Haaland. He has previously spoken about his admiration for Anfield when visiting in the Champions League with RB Salzburg. There is also the opportunity to make himself the new focal figure in a club who are coming towards the end of a squad cycle.

Klopp has never returned to Dortmund to make a signing. Now would be a great time to pull off an incredible double swoop. Over to you Jurgen.
