Liverpool star Thiago gave his thoughts on a potential January exit on Tuesday. The Spaniard has had a stop-start time at Anfield.
There’s been talk in recent weeks that Barcelona want Thiago. Bild, for instance, believe there’s a chance it could happen.
After all, Thiago hasn’t held down a regular place with the Reds since his £20m arrival and why wouldn’t Barcelona want him? He’s a world-class, homegrown player who could revolutionise their midfield.
The talk is enough, in fact, that Thiago faced a question about the rumours on Tuesday. Here’s what he had to say:
“As I always have been, I am a guy who plays football and I am not concerned about the rumours,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com.
“I am focused on the duty I have with my team, the years I have with my contract with my team.
“I just want to know about this, about this new adventure I have here in the Premier League, trying to win all the trophies I can and my commitment is maximum with this team.”
Could Thiago face January exit?
We don’t doubt for a second that Barcelona would sign Thiago if it’s possible. We just don’t believe it’s actually possible.
Yes, his career with Liverpool has been stop-start but that’s entirely because of injuries. The Spaniard says he had a problem all of last season, for one thing, that prevented him from playing to his full potential.
And we still believe he finished the season in style, regularly running games as Liverpool secured a top-four finish. Injury did interrupt his form this season, too, however.
But no one who watched Thiago against Arsenal at the weekend can doubt his quality and fit for Liverpool. He was magnificent, running the show in the first half as the Reds enacted their gameplan to perfection.
So no, we can’t see an exit for Thiago this January. Instead, we expect him to explode into life as a vital player for Liverpool this season.
