Thiago makes us want the 2021/22 season to start tomorrow

Thiago ended the season so well that we want next season to start tomorrow. The Spaniard looks set to be a star.

Liverpool officially qualified for the Champions League on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. Sadio Mane was the man to thank – his brace gave the Reds their win.

But someone else stood out to us, too. Thiago had a fantastic game that makes us incredibly excited for next season.

Thiago next season

As we wrote in our ‘5 things we learned‘ piece, Thiago was running the show in ways we hoped for when he joined for £20m. The Spaniard made himself a constant option, pressed wonderfully well and consistently found the right passes.

Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were able to make difficult runs in behind, knowing Thiago would see them. Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold knew they could bomb up each wing and the ball would get there.

Now, Thiago has been doing this for a few weeks now – ever since Southampton, really. He even equalled a career-best for creating chances vs West Brom.

But that’s part of the point. Thiago just keeps improving game on game and putting his mark on this side. All of his teammates are getting used to him, and he’s getting used to them.

It creates confidence in everyone and Thiago is very much a part of this team now.

We think that’s only going to improve next season. Thiago will get his first pre-season under his belt with the Reds, while the team will improve in personel.

After all, Thiago is doing this all without the security of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez behind him. Nor does he have Jordan Henderson’s help in midfield.

Time and comfort is improving Thiago’s performances as it is. Add in those other factors, though, and we could get something truly special. We’re not ready for this season to end, in truth – we want to see how good he gets.

We’ll have to wait for next season, of course, but from what we’re seeing, Thiago is going to play a big role as Liverpool chase trophies once again.
