Liverpool could fix their youth problem with these 3 attacking transfers

Jamie Carragher wants to see attacking transfers at Liverpool before long. Here are three players who could fix the Reds’ upcoming problem.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher rightly points out an issue at the club – key players continue to age. Now, that’s a common issue for most clubs but the Reds are in a strange position with it.

Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been the foundation of Liverpool’s success in recent years. They’ll all pass 30 before the start of next season, however.

Thus Liverpool must look at replacing them long-term. In fact, we could see that really start to happen as soon as 2022. Diogo Jota is at the club, of course, but beyond that? The Reds need new stars.

Here are three we think could be very interesting attacking transfers for Liverpool.

Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic is currently the best up-and-coming striker in Serie A. He scored 21 goals for Fiorentina last season and has another eight in 12 this time around.

Importantly, he’s also available. Vlahovic rejected a new contract with Fiorentina, meaning he has a little over 18 months left before potentially leaving for free.

La Viola want to sell before then and preferably outside of Italy. That gives Liverpool an advantage and the Reds do reportedly like the player.

There’s a lot to like about Vlahovic. He’s still so young at 21 but is already capable of scoring every kind of goal you can think of. We think Jurgen Klopp could work wonders with the Serbian.

He would, however, be a major change from Firmino as a striker, given he’s a more traditional no.9. But maybe Liverpool want that anyway – and they might not do better than Vlahovic.

Jonathan David

David is one of our favourite options. Liverpool supposedly considered him before signing Diogo Jota and before David made the move to Lille (per the Liverpool Echo).

And if he impressed then, he’s certainly impressing now. The Canadian striker is still only 21 but now boasts a Ligue 1 title.

David looked good last season but there was one complaint – he didn’t score enough for a striker. That appears to have changed this season, though, as he currently leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts.

David honestly ticks every box. He scores goals, creates for teammates, has contributed to a title win and, importantly, is a fantastic pressing forward.

We imagine he’d cost a fortune now but if Liverpool could get this done, we think David would be a brilliant signing.

Raphinha is arguably the biggest sure-thing for Liverpool. He’s shining both internationally for Brazil and knows the Premier League well.

Liverpool supposedly want him, too, and Raphinha could actually be a bargain long-term. If he’s as good as he looks, his value could double within a year.

And if Liverpool are looking at attacking transfers, they’ll likely look for a winger like Raphinha. Someone capable of playing on both wings would be incredibly valuable. The Brazilian might be their best bet at the role, given his proven qualities.

It all depends on how much Leeds United would want. We imagine it’s a fortune but as we say, Raphinha is good enough to quickly make any reasonable amount look cheap.
