Report: Liverpool face firm bidding war for Karim Adeyemi but cash may not win this one

Liverpool face a real bidding war for Karim Adeyemi, according to reports. The transfer race continues to heat up.

This comes from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg. He claims that Karim Adeyemi is at the forefront of a bidding war.

Or at least, that’s what his agent is pushing for. Said agent is supposedly in Spain visiting both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. He’ll soon more on clubs in other countries, seeking a transfer for Adeyemi.

Liverpool are almost certainly on his list. Sport1 themselves link the Reds with an interest, as do Orf and Sky Germany. Goal claims there’s been a transfer interest in Adeyemi since at least 2018.

And why wouldn’t there be interest? Adeyemi is an exceptional young player and one who could be an absolute superstar.

The only real doubts surrounded the fact his performances came in the Austrian Bundesliga. Like Erling Haaland before him, though, he’s impressing in the Champions League – though, not quite to the Norwegian’s level.

Expect Liverpool to make a real pitch, then, once this agent eventually gets around to them.

Adeyemi bidding war

This always felt pretty inevitable. Here’s a 19-year-old catching the eye in the Champions League and playing for a relatively small club.

The fact he’s coming from the same place as Haaland only increases the intrigue.

Fortunately, securing a transfer for Adeyemi isn’t going to be purely about money. Teams must meet RB Salzburg’s asking price, of course, but convincing Adeyemi himself will be different.

Throwing money at him won’t be enough. Teams will have to prove they can develop the player properly – be it for themselves or a transfer down the road.

Proving that is what likely wins the race, as it did with Haaland. Adeyemi will be looking for a step up with his transfer, not his end goal.

Now, Liverpool could try and be both. We’d back them to develop Adeyemi well and use him long-term. Whether they can convince him of that beyond, say, Borussia Dortmund or Atletico is up for debate.
