Bayer Leverkusen scored a wonderful goal against Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday. Two Liverpool-linked players combined for the strike.
Bayer Leverkusen have some very interesting talents on their books right now. Two of them combined for a goal on Thursday, too, as Leverkusen waltzed to a 4-0 win over Real Betis.
Moussa Diaby and Florian Wirtz are both enjoying fantastic seasons and it’s easy to see why when they score goals like this.
As Leverkusen broke forward, Diaby drifted inside to receive the ball on the edge of the box. He paused with it, waiting for Wirtz to make his run in behind.
Diaby then scooped the ball up and over the defence, allowing Wirtz to score a first-time finish. It was a brilliant goal, making it 3-0 to Leverkusen and effectively ending the contest.
And by some accounts, it’s a goal Liverpool will watch closely.
Liverpool-linked stars score Leverkusen goal
CalcioMercato claims Liverpool like Diaby. The 22-year-old could be the next in a long line of wingers at the club.
And if Liverpool were watching the Leverkusen duo, they’d have seen far more than just this goal. Diaby finished with two goals and two assists, while Wirtz set up Diaby’s opener.
Between them, the pair created nine chances against a decent team in Betis. Converting those into three assists is pretty good going – even better that they got three of the goals, too.
It seems unlikely that Liverpool would go to Leverkusen and sign two players, of course. But it’s also hard to see a better chance to land a duo like this.
Both players are so young and yet delivering in big games. Both could fit Liverpool wonderfully well, too.
Undoubtedly, they’re a pair for Reds to keep an eye on.
