Some Liverpool fans are all about Florian Wirtz as he scores against Celtic on Thursday evening. The 18-year-old looks like an elite talent.
Liverpool supposedly want Florian Wirtz. That’s according to Christian Falk of Bild, who claims the Reds are one of several clubs looking at the teenager.
And of course they are. Wirtz only turned 18 in May but finished last season with five goals and five assists. Quite ridiculously, the teenager already has four goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season.
It’s simply incredible form from Wirtz, who is quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s brightest prospects. You can read more of our thoughts on the link here – suffice to say, we’re in favour of it.
And so all eyes were on Celtic Park on Thursday evening. Wirtz travelled with Bayer Leverkusen to face Celtic, hoping to make his mark in the Europa League.
Unsurprisingly, he did just that. Wirtz was involved in the build-up for Leverkusen’s first goal and the second was all his. The teenager showed wonderful movement to open himself up for a pass in the box, just about staying onside to slot home.
That made it 2-0 and effectively killed the game – Leverkusen were levels ahead of Celtic here and won the game 4-0.
Fans react as Florian Wirtz scores
Wirtz’s goal understandably got some attention. Some Liverpool fans had eyes on the game, hoping to see what all the fuss was about.
What they saw was a very solid away performance in Europe, marked with an impressive goal. Safe to say they liked what they saw and now several want Wirtz to be a priority for Liverpool.
We’re not sure what Wirtz would cost to buy but it’s not going to be cheap. Leverkusen received a huge sum for Kai Havertz, for instance, who was a similar teenage talent to his compatriot.
Undoubtedly, though, this is one to watch. Liverpool should have interest here – let’s just hope they act on it.
