Liverpool take on Porto

Jürgen Klopp and his side are familiar with the Estádio do Dragão.

The Reds drew the Portuguese side in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 editions of the European Cup.

Liverpool won the two ties at the Estádio do Dragão with an aggregate score of 9-1.

In addition the Reds beat Porto 2-0 at Anfield and drew 0-0 in another home tie.

As a result Liverpool will be confident going into this one, particularly after a strong start to the campaign against AC Milan.

Trent Alexander-Arnold absent

This week saw yet another fitness blow for the Reds.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was left behind as the Liverpool squad flew to Porto.

The Scouser took part in the Reds’ open training session on Monday afternoon but he wasn’t part of the travelling party.

Neco Williams set for Porto chance

At the start of the transfer window The Athletic reported that Neco Williams wanted a move away in search of regular first team football.

The Reds were allegedly prepared to sell for £10m but no such move materialised.

Since then he’s been ruled out due to injury but he’s recovered well enough to travel to Portugal.

As a result we could see Neco Williams given a big chance to prove himself against Porto.

The right back faces competition for the spot with Joe Gomez and James Milner having filled in there.

Should the Welshman get the nod it is an opportunity for him to put himself in the shop window whilst also convincing the boss to give him more regular minutes.

In an ideal world he performs well enough to let the boss know that he can cover for Trent if the Scouser needs a rest. At the minute it’s unthinkable to give the first choice a night off.

Can Neco change that in the Champions League?
