For years there has been a debate about the future role of a certain Liverpool player. The Reds’ creator in chief at right back has been tipped for a role in midfield, a role which he was deployed in against Andorra. Gary Lineker has said it doesn’t matter where Trent Alexander-Arnold plays for England, he just has to play.
Alexander-Arnold and England
Now is a complicated time for the Scouser in our team and his national side.
The Three Lions have more than enough right backs to choose from with new options popping up all the time. Tino Livramento could be the next to enter the debate.
Due to the wealth of options and the Reds’ poor form last term, Trent Alexander-Arnold was left out of an England squad.
The snub spurred the Scouser on and he hit his best form of the season, earning a spot at Euro 2020.
Unfortunately injury prevented him from taking part in the competition.
Gary Lineker on Alexander-Arnold position
This weekend we saw England take on Andorra.
Trent Alexander-Arnold started the game in centre midfield before being switched to right back.
It’s safe to say the Scouser’s performance in the middle has received mixed reviews with many considering him lost.
Gary Lineker has had his say on Trent Alexander-Arnold, issuing Gareth Southgate and England a clear directive.
What RTK has to say
If Gareth Southgate can’t find a way to play the best right back in the world then it says more about his management ability than it does about Trent.
He should be the automatic first choice at right back.
England have no creative force like Trent, his passing ability surpasses that of every other Three Lions squad member.
Hopefully we’ll see Southgate settle soon instead of feeling the need to pick four right backs every time he names a squad.
