Here we round-up deadline day for Liverpool. Things were quiet but the Reds did strike a few deals.
New contracts
Jordan Henderson
No, it’s not the best way to start a deadline day round-up but Liverpool did at least strike one headline-worthy deal. Jordan Henderson signed a new contract with the club.
The captain is sticking around long-term, then. That’s certainly worth celebrating.
Nat Phillips
A surprise, for sure. We thought Nat Phillips would leave Liverpool but he’s instead tied down for four years.
He’ll be the fifth choice centre-back this season – hopefully, he still finds a few games. You can read our full thoughts on this one here.
James Norris
18-year-old left-back James Norris signed a new deal with Liverpool. He has made a senior debut for the Reds, coming on as a sub in that young team against Aston Villa in December 2019.
Rated highly, Norris steps up to the Under 23s this year. Liverpool will hope he has more first-team appearances to come.
Rhys Williams
Rhys Williams earned himself a new five-year contract with his heroics last season. We think this is one to smile about and you can read our thoughts here.
Loan deals
Rhys Williams – Swansea City
And we’re right back to Williams. He joins Swansea City for next season, which promises to be huge for him.
A full campaign in the second-tier could prove the making of the 20-year-old.
Luis Longstaff – Queen’s Park
2019 FA Youth Cup winner Luis Longstaff joins Queen’s Park in Scottish League One. The 20-year-old gets senior experience after a season with the Under 23s.
Jakes Cain – Newport County
Jake Cain will spend the season in League Two with Newport County. The young midfielder has been on the cusp of first-team minutes but will get a proper taste of senior football elsewhere this season.
Sheyi Ojo – Millwall
Sheyi Ojo is out on loan once again, this time with Millwall. It was thought Ojo would leave permanently this time around but the 24-year-old instead makes another temporary move.
