Moussa Diaby continued his electric start to the new Bundesliga season on Saturday, and we think that he may have earned some attention in Liverpool.
The Frenchman got one goal and one assist as Bayer Leverkusen easily dispatched of Borussia Monchengladbach in a 4-0 thrashing.
This follows on from his goal against Union Berlin on the opening day.
His assist against Gladbach was remarkable, as he drove forward with the ball on the right flank, before teeing up Patrick Schick to finish from outside the box.
Diaby got some fortune with his goal, as his half-volley from inside the box took a deflection which wrong-footed Yann Sommer in goal. Yet he was still in a fantastic position in the area, which shows his excellent match intelligence.
He has been threatening to explode for quite a few years now, but the 22-year-old is finally doing it this season.
While he managed a very impressive 11 assists last campaign, he is already halfway to reaching his goal tally of four.
We think that Liverpool should make a move for him this summer before his price takes a huge rise in the next few months.
Diaby is absolutely perfect for Liverpool
We know that Liverpool want to sign a new forward this year. Yet they will only be able to do so if they sell the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri first.
If they do manage to offload some deadwood, then Diaby is exactly the type of player that the club should be after.
Diaby is a left-footed winger capable of playing on either flank. He has most often played off the left for Leverkusen but has started both of the opening two games of this season from the right.
This means that he could come in this summer and cover both flanks, before eventually succeeding Mohamed Salah on the right.
His creative numbers were excellent when he featured on the left. But we believe that his move to the other wing could see his goal number spike this season.
If the opening two games are anything to go by, we will be proven right.
Considering that Leverkusen signed him from PSG for £13.5m in 2019, Diaby could come at a big price. But we think that he would be worth it.
His underlying numbers suggest that he is going to become a superstar, so it would be worth the risk of paying big for him in the next week.
He is exactly the type of profile that Liverpool love, so don’t be surprised if we hear some links developing before the transfer window closes.
