Lyon boss Peter Bosz responded to speculation that Xherdan Shaqiri could move to the club. The Liverpool playmaker is up for sale.
There’s plenty of speculation right now that Xherdan Shaqiri is on his way to Lyon. L’Equipe claimed recently, in fact, that terms had been agreed between the two.
Throw in reports that Shaqiri missed training this week and it certainly sounds as though he’s off. How likely is it, though?
Well, RMC Sport in France directly asked Lyon boss Peter Bosz whether he wanted Shaqiri at the club.
Bosz on Shaqiri
“If we can recruit a good player, we will, but I can’t say anything,” said Bosz.
It’s pretty much a stock answer but the exact one you’d give if there was interest. Bosz identifies Shaqiri as a good player, admits he’d want such a player, but knows he can’t outright discuss his interest.
Shaqiri isn’t there yet, after all.
And it does sound as though it might take a little work to get the Swiss to Lyon. That’s what recent reports claim, certainly.
Journalist Neil Jones recently told Redmen TV that Lyon had offered as little as £4m for Shaqiri. People at Liverpool apparently considered that ‘ridiculous’ – and they’re absolutely right.
But Lyon may soon be able to offer more for the player. As we detailed here, there’s a potential transfer chain that could see them with the money to sign Shaqiri soon.
As for what it would take, Sky Sports claim Liverpool want around £13m. We’ll have to wait and see what the Reds are willing to settle for as remaining time in the transfer window ticks away.
