Jurgen Klopp picked out Kostas Tsimikas after Liverpool’s pre-season friendly win over Bologna on Thursday. The Greek left-back impressed the boss.
Kostas Tsimikas impressed Jurgen Klopp on Thursday as Liverpool continued their pre-season. The Reds had an unconventional ‘friendly’ against Bologna that was actually two games.
The teams faced each other twice in hour-long fixtures, with half-time after 30 minutes. Liverpool would win both, 2-0 and 1-0.
They were treated as different games, though, and Klopp used a different XI both times. The second one featured Tsimikas at left-back – and he caught the eye.
“Kostas was really, really good today, I have to say,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com after the game. “That’s true. It was just 45 minutes, that’s fine.”
Klopp enjoys Tsimikas pre-season display
Klopp is far from the only one enjoying Tsimikas in pre-season. In fact, fans were raving about the Greek after this one.
Tsimikas just looks like the right kind of player for Liverpool. He’s got bags of energy and looks aggressive as he gets up and down the line.
Add in his clear crossing quality and you can’t really ask for more from your left-back. As we’ve said before, Tsimikas appears to be someone we can get excited over.
But it’s a strange situation, of course. Tsimikas arrived a year ago but we barely saw him across his debut season as he only played six Premier League minutes.
His Champions League minutes only added up to around 135, too – he just wasn’t able to get opportunities. That was largely down to injuries, of course.
This season, though, we might finally see what Tsimikas can bring. He’ll have to wait for his chances again, given Andy Robertson plays his position, but the 25-year-old looks like a wonderful rotation player.
We see it, the fans see it and Klopp sees it. This should be a big year for Tsimikas.
