Liverpool fans are absolutely loving Kostas Tsimikas this pre-season. The Greek is finally making a name for himself.
Kostas Tsimikas has been a revelation for Liverpool in pre-season. We didn’t see that coming after a fairly disastrous debut season.
The Greek played just six Premier League minutes in the last campaign, while his Champions League minutes totalled around 1.5 games. Tsimikas just wasn’t around much.
Injuries played a huge part in that. Tsimikas had his own problems, while the team’s overall issues forced Jurgen Klopp to stick with experienced players where he could.
Now, though, Tsimikas is finally starting to show why Liverpool signed him last year. He’s a very good player.
We’ve written recently how he’s someone to finally get excited over. The Greek is consistently showing traits that both Liverpool and the fans love.
Tsimikas is energetic, aggressive, direct, and capable on the ball. We’re loving what we’re seeing – and fans on Twitter are, too.
Liverpool fans react to Tsimikas in pre-season
A few fans have pointed out the problem – Tsimikas is behind Andy Robertson in the pecking order. That’s a tough spot to be in, given the Scot is the world’s best.
But we still expect to see more of the 25-year-old going forward. For one, Robertson could use some more rest after playing an international competition after an intense season.
And that should mean Tsimikas continues to grow. He’s proving himself to be a very talented option who can keep Liverpool ticking even when Robertson isn’t there.
You can’t ask for much more than that, in truth. This should be the year Tsimikas brings what we hoped for last season.
Klopp has a pretty complete squad, as a result. There’s cover all over the pitch and while some of that cover could be improved, there won’t be fitness or rotation concerns.
And if Tsimikas continues his pre-season form, there certainly won’t be any concerns about left-back whatsoever.
