Liverpool could be in for Manuel Locatelli, according to reports. A mystery English club has apparently made an offer.
This comes from Gazzetta Dello Sport. They claim that Liverpool might be in for Manuel Locatelli?
Yes, it’s an unusual transfer rumour. An English club has made a large offer for the player, however. That’s according to Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali, per Fabrizio Romano.
“Locatelli wants to join Juventus, but they need to reach an agreement with us,” said Carnevali “He has proposals also from Arsenal and a new English club [are] now in the race, so he needs to decide… or he could stay.”
Gazzetta believe that club could be Liverpool. ‘Clues’ point in that direction, apparently.
Are Liverpool in for Manuel Locatelli?
Everyone expects Locatelli to join Juventus – but everyone has expected that for a while now and it hasn’t happened. The delay suggests there’s an opportunity to swoop in and Arsenal have certainly tried.
Could Liverpool, though? Potentially, yes. They have a gap in midfield after Gini Wijnaldum departed at the end of his contract.
And Locatelli really might not be that expensive, all things considered. Gazzetta had the price at £34m earlier in the month.
You’d get a very talented 23-year-old midfielder for that and one who’s just helped Italy to the Euro 2020 trophy. We’re not entirely sure there are better alternatives at that price point.
The big question, then, is whether Liverpool actually have the money. Perhaps they don’t but they’ve already recouped nearly all of that price in player sales.
There’s got to be half a chance, surely?
We’ve said before that Locatelli feels like an opportunity Liverpool should jump on. Perhaps they have, given a mystery English club is involved.
And if they haven’t, we’ve got to start wondering what the plan is. It doesn’t get much better than Locatelli right now.
