Liverpool today confirmed that they will travel to Austria on Monday for their pre-season training camp ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
It will be an opportunity for players to get back up to speed and put their name in the mix for first-team chances next season.
There are numerous players in the squad that fans should keep a close eye on.
Here are the five Liverpool players that we think are worth watching in Austria.
Virgil van Dijk
This is the question that is sure to be on everyone’s lips soon.
Is Virgil van Dijk going to come back as the same player he was before his ACL injury?
Pre-season will give us a good indication of that.
Fans are sure to be ecstatic to see pictures of him in his first full training session with the team, never mind when he gets on the pitch in the friendly games.
We will have a good idea if he is up to speed or not soon enough.
Take everything we said above and apply it to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip too.
We all love a new signing, don’t we?
Konate’s recent social media exploits have made supporters even more excited about his arrival.
For many, this camp will be the first time that they have seen the Frenchman in action.
We cannot wait to see how he gels with the squad in what will be a vital camp for him.
We also cannot wait to see him partnering van Dijk during the friendly games.
His cult hero status may be secured by the time he leaves Salzburg.
Speaking of Salzburg, Naby Keita will be returning to where his European adventure all started.
It feels like this is becoming something of a tradition for the Guinean. This is not the first season we have looked forward to and said it is make-or-break for Keita.
With Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago not involved, Keita will be one of the senior centre-midfielders on the trip.
He has a chance to show some leadership and perform and to remind both staff and fans of the quality player that he is ahead of the new campaign.
As huge fans of the 26-year-old, we hope this is the summer that he proves himself.
Fresh after signing a new long-term deal at the club, Harvey Elliott will be buzzing as he heads off to Austria with the Liverpool squad.
He will have to chance to show that he is good enough to be a first-team regular next season.
It will be good to see if Elliott features solely off the right-wing or if he gets a chance to play in central midfield too.
If he explodes and impresses Jurgen Klopp, then he will be involved next season, rather than sent on loan.
Finally, we have Mateusz Musialowski.
The Polish forward is one of the most exciting talents to play at Liverpool’s academy in years.
He is electric, to say the least and appears to have a big future ahead of him.
It will be good to see how he looks when he is playing with and against senior pros, rather than fellow youngsters.
If he performs well, he will have a good chance of getting some minutes in cup competitions.
If he performs very well, then it may not only be in the cups.
Keep an eye on him.
