Liverpool have today confirmed both their plans and their squad for the upcoming pre-season training camp.
Per liverpoolfc.com, the programme will begin next Monday (July 12). The squad will fly out to Austria for a training camp, splitting their time between two bases.
First, they will travel to Salzburg, before moving across to Tyrol.
Details about who they will face in the pre-season friendly games will be revealed in the coming days and weeks.
A squad of 34 players will make the trip, including new signing Ibrahima Konate.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip will also travel as they continue their comeback from season-ending injuries.
Numerous promising youngsters like Kaide Gordon and Mateusz Musialowski will be involved too.
Stars that are involved in international tournaments will join up with the squad later in the summer.
RTK View: 2021 pre-season set to be the most exciting in years
For a number of reasons, we believe that this may be Liverpool’s most exciting pre-season training camp in years.
Everybody will be looking forward to seeing Konate involved with the squad for the first time.
We want to see how he performs in a red shirt and how he fits in with the rest of his teammates.
Above all, though, fans will want to get a look at Virgil van Dijk. Is he still the same player he was before his horror ACL injury?
The same goes for Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Harvey Elliott is another one. Pre-season should give us a good idea of whether he is going to be involved with the first-team next season or sent on loan again.
His development was staggering at Blackburn last season, so we want to see if his level is up there with the Mo Salah’s and Sadio Mane’s of the squad.
Finally, there are a whole host of youngsters that will be getting a first feel of first-team football in Austria.
The most exciting of these are Kaide Gordon and Mateusz Musialowski.
The likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson and our three Brazilian boys are not making the trip, so these youngsters will get their chance in the friendly games.
What will they look like on the pitch with a bunch of seasoned professionals?
We are going to find out soon enough.
