Mbappe will not extend PSG contract; he will leave for free in 2022

Kylian Mbappe will leave PSG as a free agent in 2022 after deciding to not extend his contract at the club.

According to L’Equipe, Mbappe has informed his team of his decision.

The two parties have been in negotiations about a new deal for two years. A decision was to be made after France’s elimination from Euro 2020, which came after Mbappe missed a penalty in the shoot-out in their last 16 game against Switzerland.

And the 22-year-old has decided to honour his contract and stay at the club for one more season, before departing on a free next summer.

This comes despite reports of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stepping in to try and convince him to stay on.

There is reportedly no chance of Mbappe leaving this year.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

This news is guaranteed to excite Liverpool fans.

The Reds and Real Madrid are likely to be the only two sides that Mbappe can realistically join next summer. As of now, they are the only two teams that he is consistently linked to.

The forward has spoken very highly of both Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp in the past.

Real Madrid will be hard to turn down. However, a lot depends on how next season goes.

For example, if Liverpool win a big trophy or two and Los Blancos have a poor campaign, Anfield will be the much more attractive prospect.

In terms of the project at each club, Liverpool is quite clearly more promising as it is.

Hopefully, the club will do everything in their power to get him.

While they will not be able to offer the same wages as Real Madrid, the player himself may be happy to accept a lower income in exchange for more on-field success.

It is a big if and fans should not get ahead of themselves, but this news is certainly fantastic for Liverpool and their fans.

We here at RTK are all ready to board the Mbappe 2022 hype train.
