Liverpool have to raise funds this summer. The Reds are in need of some key signings and the club will have to finance this buys by selling off fringe players. As a result, Michael Edwards has reason to thank Kylian Mbappe for his penalty miss against Switzerland.
Liverpool fire sale
This summer the Reds have to shift a lot of fringe players.
Jürgen Klopp needs a midfielder and a striker to come in.
As a result Michael Edwards has to finance these arrivals through player sales.
Last term buying clubs weren’t able to stump up the necessary cash due to the financial impact of the pandemic.
This time out we expect a number of outgoing transfers.
Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic will depart the club after a string of loan moves.
Meanwhile Divock Origi will likely replaced as the club looks to upgrade on the quality in depth up top.
In addition Neco Williams could be on the move with reports that he wants first team football.
Kylian Mbappe penalty v Switzerland
This week saw a dramatic day of action at the Euros.
Spain beat Croatia after extra time in a 5-3 thriller.
Heading into the evening we were hoping for more of the same and we weren’t disappointed.
France drew 3-3 with Switzerland after extra time. The Swiss levelled in the final minute of normal time.
In the shootout every penalty was scored until Kylian Mbappe missed his penalty against Switzerland.
The French were sent crashing out whilst the Swiss go marching on into a tie with Spain.
Michael Edwards boost
The Swiss in the quarter finals of the Euros is great news for Michael Edwards.
Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to be sold this summer.
Seeing the midfielder lead his side to a quarter final in a major tournament and showcase his stuff on the big stage will massively increase Edwards’ bargaining power.
The midfielder hasn’t had much of a look in at Liverpool lately but the Euros have now provided the perfect opportunity for him, thankfully Kylian Mbappe has handed him another game to impress in.
