Jordan Henderson has sent a message of support to Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool announced that the Dutchman will undergo surgery on his knee.
Liverpool announced on Sunday that Virgil van Dijk will undergo surgery on his knee. There’s ‘no specific timescale’ for his return, either – the Reds could be without him for quite some time.
This comes after the Merseyside derby, of course. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford escaped any punishment for a reckless tackle on Van Dijk, catching him around the knee with his full weight.
Thus it wasn’t any great surprise that Van Dijk is out for a while. It was a terrible looking incident but, hopefully, not one that permanently damages the player.
That was certainly the sentiment from captain Jordan Henderson, who sent a message of support to Van Dijk on Sunday.

“The comeback is always stronger than the setback,” Henderson said on Twitter. “Recover well my brother. We’ll be waiting for you.”

It’s certainly a nice message and every Liverpool fan will hope he’s right on this one. The biggest worry is that Van Dijk doesn’t come back the same player but Henderson is clearly thinking positively.
Hopefully, he can keep that attitude up for some time as Liverpool will rely on Henderson over the coming season.
He’s the player who keeps the team together and the one who controls the mentality of the side. Henderson is so important, in fact, that we highlighted him as one of the three players Liverpool will rely on in Van Dijk’s absence.
