Liverpool will be itching for a win this weekend. The Reds really cannot afford to lose this next game. It wouldn’t write off the season but it would certainly be a blow to the player’s confidence. This is a must win game against Everton. Unfortunately, Jürgen Klopp could be forced to drop Fabinho and Roberto Firmino due to testing complications.
Must win tie
The stakes are huge for this Merseyside Derby.
The Reds have just been thumped by Aston Villa and the Ev are top of the league.
We need to lay down a marker, we need to get back on our perch. Losing two in a row would be bad enough. Losing to the Ev would be bad enough. Losing two in a row, to the Ev, when the Ev are top of the table would be a nightmare.
International break annoyance
This international break couldn’t have come at a worse time.
The Reds will be itching to set the record straight, delving through what went wrong and assuring it won’t go wrong again.
Instead, the lads are off around the world on international breaks, leaving us with little time to prepare for the Everton game.
Fabinho and Firmino issues
Liverpool could be forced to drop Fabinho and Roberto Firmino for the game as they can’t rely on their involvement, they can’t plan for it too far in advance.
The pair aren’t expected back at Melwood until around 24 hours before kick off. The lads will then be tested and the Reds won’t know the results until the next day according to Jürgen Klopp.
This is stressful for the management and they could be better off not gambling on their involvement, instead opting to start them on the bench so that they can be confident in the players who are available.
What makes this worse is that this was entirely avoidable. Had the Derby not been selected for the 12:30pm Saturday kick off then the Reds would’ve had a fair amount of time to test and prepare.
Darlings of the league are we? Sure.
