Liverpool have suffered their worst defeat in decades. Kopites are a bit down about it, we looked shaky at the back – something we haven’t felt in a while. The Reds will surely turn it around but how? It could take a decisive move from the manager. Jürgen Klopp should consider starting Fabinho at the back with Thiago in defensive midfield against Everton.

Disaster in defence

Against Aston Villa the Liverpool defence collapsed.

The Reds back line never looked confident from the moment that Adrian gifted the hosts an opening goal through a lazy pass.

Villa capitalised on the lack of confidence, also cashing in all of their luck for the season, netting three heavily deflected goals.

Joe Gomez was substituted off in the second half after struggling to maintain his composure.

Fabinho at the back

Against Chelsea we saw Fabinho put in a man of the match performance when filling in in defence.

The long limbed Brazilian pocketed Timo Werner with a display that demonstrated just how good of a one-on-one defender the 26-year-old is.

He looked assured throughout the game, composed at the back despite being dropped into the defence late on due to an injury to Joe Gomez.

Jürgen Klopp should stick Fabinho back alongside Van Dijk for the Merseyside Derby, taking Gomez out of the firing line after tough time at Villa Park.

Thiago holding

Dropping Fabinho into the back four could well be possible now that Thiago is at the club having signed from Bayern Munich for a deal worth up to £25m.

The Spaniard is an effective defensive midfielder. He could sit at the base of the midfield and martial the play for the Reds.

He is more than adept at winning the ball back and of course he is lethal when in possession.

Prior to his arrival it could have been risky to drop Fabby into the back four – we aren’t sure how fit Jordan Henderson will be for the Derby.

This could get the best out of both Thiago and Fabinho. The Spaniard would see a lot of the ball and the Brazilian could solidify the defence.
