Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League last night. Atletico Madrid came to Anfield and put in another impressive defensive display. With Kopites now licking their wounds after having their European dreams dashed, we believe that Liverpool fans should believe that the club can win the treble next year – signs are pointing to it.
It was heartbreaking, there’s no dancing around that.
Liverpool were meant to be embarking on an era of dominance, we were meant to win the next 11 Champions Leagues.
However, it transpires that our achilles heel, as with many teams, is not having our first choice keeper available.
The Reds put in one of their best performances of recent times against Atletico but it all came crashing down when Adrian lost his cool and gifted the opposition a precious away goal.
Despite being knocked out of European competition, The Reds are still on course for the earliest title win in history, they have absolutely obliterated the Premier League this season.
We can expect them to go one better next season.
Michael Edwards and Jürgen Klopp will have a thorough review of the season in which they will identify which areas need strengthening, those areas will be dealt with swiftly.
Each year since Jürgen Klopp arrived at the club, we have improved.
The boss has always taken us a step further than the season before: a Europa League final to a Champions League final to a Champions League win to a record breaking Premier League win.
It follows that next season we will build on this season’s successes and failures, the squad will be strengthened and we will be able to more effectively compete on multiple fronts, we won’t be knocked out of the cups because our second string isn’t up to the task.
Liverpool fans should be hopeful of the treble.
