Liverpool need offensive reinforcements. The Reds have the deadliest front three in world football but no world class cover for their hitmen. Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Timo Werner.

Recent reports have even claimed that Jürgen Klopp has a “pre-agreement” in place to sign the German forward in the summer.

There was speculation recently that The Reds could have been forced into a January move for Werner by purported interest from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old striker has netted 20 goals in 18 games in the German Bundesliga this season, making him the league’s top scorer ahead of Robert Lewandowski by virtue of a better goals per minute ratio.

Respected journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has said that he can see the transfer happening and has backed Liverpool to make the “signing of the summer” if they bag Timo Werner.

What RTK has to say

He’s not wrong.

The Reds are desperate for backup for the front line, signing the Bundesliga’s top scorer would be a massive statement of intent.

If we were to bring in Werner he would likely want assurances that he would be able to fight for a place in the side.

Going from the star man in one league to being a benchwarmer in another isn’t the most enticing prospect for a young footballer.

The most likely scenario is that Werner would be rotated in and out of the squad. If The Reds were able to keep their front three fighting fit by resting them in turn then we could be looking at an all conquering side.

Alternatively we could see Roberto Firmino drop into an attacking midfield role.

Of course, this already is an all conquering side, the issue is maintenance – rotation options are key to sustaining dominance.
