Liverpool have proven to be one of the niftiest operators in the transfer market in recent seasons. Michael Edwards has become a world leader in securing bargain deals for top talents. We could be set for another top arrival at Anfield, with The Mirror reporting that Liverpool may have been forced into a move for Timo Werner.

Werner has been in downright sensational form this season.

The German striker has netted 20 goals in 18 games for RB Leipzig this campaign.

The 23-year-old’s form has been critical to Leipzig rocketing to first place in the German Bundesliga.

According to The Mirror, Jürgen Klopp was hoping to bide his time and bring the German striker in over the summer.

However, the report states that Chelsea have looked to bring the striker in this month – prompting Liverpool to bring forward their own move for Timo Werner.

The figure being touted for the 23-year-old is a pricey £60m.

What RTK has to say

Werner is probably the most realistic and sensible centre forward signing that The Reds could make.

He offers a different dynamic to Roberto Firmino, giving us a plan B.

Werner also brings versatility to the side, he has played off the left for Julian Nagelsmann but is equally adept as a number nine.

If Liverpool want him, they will get him. We have shown in recent seasons that we are willing to wait to secure the right targets, implying that we will do what it takes.

We bided our time for Virgil van Dijk and we waited a year for Naby Keita. If we have to go early for Werner, we will.
