There are few transfer sagas in our modern history like the #Mbappe2020 saga. This is a saga that has run ever since the young lad was at Monaco, it is a saga that has been filled with optimism, sarcasm and a general hopeful levity. Whether or not the saga has a happy ending remains to be seen. However, one thing is for certain – Fabinho has admitted he wants Kylian Mbappe at Liverpool.

The Reds signed Fabinho from Monaco back in the summer of 2018 – they paid around £39m for the leggy enforcer. The Brazilian had been part of the Monaco side that took the Champions League by storm, knocking out Manchester City.

Whilst in the fabled millionaire’s paradise, Fabby played alongside Kylian Mbappe. The pair have remained friends since their respective moves away from Monaco.

Speaking to Telefoot in France (h/t Liverpool ECHO), Fabinho said he “would like to welcome” Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool.

This isn’t the first time the Brazilian has played agent in the media, last season Fabinho said “[Mbappe] has already said for the next season he will remain at PSG. But I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool!”

What RTK has to say

If Fabinho gets his wish and Mbappe signs for Liverpool we could be truly unstoppable. As it stands we are streaks ahead of every other side in the league, adding one of the world’s best strikers would be a cheat code (as the kids like to say).

However, the finances involved in this deal raise some eyebrows. It wouldn’t fit the Reds transfer policy to sign a megastar for megastar money – in recent seasons we have opted for young players hungry to prove themselves, bringing them in for little money and multiplying their value. It would be a big surprise to see us deviate from this plan in such a significant manner – Nike would be the only explanation.
