Boxing Day marks Liverpool’s biggest game of the season so far. This game is enormous because every game is now but also because of how far ahead of second place it could send us. Liverpool will be taking on Leicester City at the King Power stadium. Sadio Mane had a blinder last time we played Leicester City, we need the same again from the Senegalese forward.
As it stands, the Reds are 10 points clear of Leicester City with a game in hand. If Jürgen Klopp’s men come out on top today and win their game in hand, they will be 16 points clear of Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester.
Back in October we saw Liverpool score a dramatic 95th minute winner to beat Leicester City 2-1 at Anfield. The Reds had gone 1-0 up just before halftime when Sadio Mane slotted past Kasper Schmeichel. James Maddison equalised for the Foxes with 10 minutes remaining. Deep into added time Mane was brought down in the box and James Milner converted the resulting spot kick to secure the win.
Throughout the game we saw Sadio Mane run Leicester City ragged. The Senegalese forward really took the match by the scruff of the neck. He was at his best at both ends of the pitch. Mane was found ghosting past defenders, chasing down lost causes and throwing in last ditch slide tackles to stop the cross. It was a monumental performance.
With the rewards of winning on Boxing Day so rich, we need another world beating performance from Sadio Mane against Leicester City. The Foxes are at full strength defensively and enjoy home advantage, though that may suit Sadio.
With Brendan Rodgers’ side knowing they have to beat the Reds if they still want to be in with a whisper of a title challenge, they will likely be more attacking than they were at Anfield – this should open up spaces for Mane to attack.
