"Pure corruption": Twitter fuming after VAR rules out Sadio Mane goal

Saturday it was back to the heartstopping usual for the Reds. Liverpool beat Watford 2-0 at Anfield but it was far from the comfortable, routine victory that we’ve been treated to in the last fortnight. A brace from Mo Salah secured the win but the game could have been over early in the second half had Sadio Mane not seen the VAR rule out his goal for offside.

The Egyptian King opened the scoring after 38 minutes when Mane found him breaking up the field. Mo cut inside onto his right foot and curled the ball into the far corner. It was a sublime finish, Ben Foster was helpless in the Watford net.

After 53 minutes Sadio Mane headed a goal in at the Kop end only for the VAR to make a hair splitting decision to rule it out. The Senegalese forward was adjudged to be offside by a millimetre – it was a frankly ridiculous decision given the fine margins involved. Fans have taken to Twitter to vent.

This journalist believes that the new technology has changed the game.

One Kopite was questioning how the lines are drawn by the VAR. He has a point when you consider how thick the lines are.

Even Manchester United fan was leaping to the Reds’ defence, adamant that the offside law as we know it is not being implemented in the right spirit.

A supporter bemoaned the lifesucking nature of VAR.

Of some Liverpool fans pointed out how other supporters can’t have their cake and eat it when it comes to the Reds and technology.
