There have been dozens of Liverpool rumours flooding the gossip columns in recent weeks. The Reds have been linked with all and sundry; prodigious wonderkids, underrated talents and superstars alike. Whilst we won’t be holding our breath over a midseason move, Jürgen Klopp has refused to rule out a January transfer.
Speaking at his pre-Everton press conference, broadcast on the club’s official site, the gaffer was asked about Pep Guardiola’s announcement that he won’t buy in January and whether or not it is more difficult to recruit during the winter window. The boss told the media:
“It’s not important; for us it’s always the same, we don’t speak about it, we are always ready, if we can do something that helps us – we try to do it. The summer window is really difficult because of the different moments when it closes. We will see.”
What RTK has to say
Our manager is the type to play it straight if he has a straight answer to give. The fact that Jürgen Klopp has refused to rule out a January transfer could be cause for excitement.
We can also read into the fact that this question was prefaced by asking about Pep Guardiola. The Liverpool boss was asked for his thoughts on the City manager saying he won’t buy in January, if the Reds are also planning on a quiet window then surely the gaffer would have said so?
A big money, marquee signing is unlikely to happen in January. With the new Liverpool Nike deal rumoured to include a clause that would see us reap a percentage from every shirt sold, it would be foolish of us to not capitalise on this in the summer. Some budget buy depth could be on the cards.
