You simply cannot have a good game as a youngster these days without being linked to Europe’s top clubs. The latest teen sensation to garner interest is plies his trade at Lyon. According to a report by 90Min, Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the chase for Rayan Cherki.
At just 16-years-old Cherki has already been capped at youth level for France and has made his Ligue 1 and Champions League debuts. The young forward also holds the record for the youngest player to score in UEFA Youth League, he netted in his side’s 4-1 win over Manchester City aged 15 years and 33 days old.
The report claims that Liverpool and United aren’t the only sides tracking Rayan Cherki; Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Ajax have also been credited with an interest.
What RTK has to say
Another day, another prodigy.
If Liverpool sign Rayan Cherki it would be in keeping with the transfer policy of recent seasons which seems to be a pre-emptive take on the Galacticos Project that Real Madrid implemented at the start of the century.
Rather than buying the world’s most coveted superstars, we seem to be buying up the superstars of the future in order to steal a march on the other top sides in Europe.
In the last few years we have beaten the continent’s giants to the signatures of Harvey Elliott, Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg.
For a player to have made his domestic and European debuts at the age of 16 is otherworldly, Kopites should get excited if these rumours start gathering pace – according to the 90Min report, some regard him as the next Karim Benzema.
