It was not pretty by any means but Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the weekend to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds win was hard fought and there was definitely an element of luck involved but it was three points nonetheless. Roy Keane believes that Liverpool played like champions against Crystal Palace.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Manchester City’s win against Chelsea, Roy Keane was full of praise for Liverpool. The Irishman professed:
“It was a tricky game for Liverpool – going down to Palace after the international break, and they will be looking at the game where a few decisions went their way. I’ll go back to what I said, it was a great win for Liverpool. It’s the sign of champions, winning ugly and that’s a great sign.”
What RTK has to say
Despite being a mortal enemy of ours for years, Roy Keane has proven sensible in his comments about Liverpool this season. Since stepping into regular punditry, the retired midfielder has displayed a candour and keen analysis that football coverage has been missing.
The Manchester United legend is spot on with his comments: these are the games that are vital in a title race. Heading to one of the Premier League’s most difficult grounds on the back of an international break that exhausted some of your top talents is no easy task for any team. Yet, champions find a way of picking up three points in these difficult games – we did that.
It does not matter how the wins come, as long as they keep coming.
