It has been a frustrating season for Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international couldn’t get into the side at the start of the season and has been missing for the last five weeks due to injury. There have been rumours that he could look to push a move out of Liverpool in the near future. When Jürgen Klopp was asked about the Xherdan Shaqiri situation, the gaffer was resolute in his support of the midfielder.

Liverpool’s official site broadcasted the manager’s pre-match press conference. When quizzed on the happiness of Shaq, the boss replied:
“That’s the world outside. There’s nothing else to say, we don’t think like this, when I’m with him he’s completely fine…Of course he has a future here…This season he is a very important player for us.”
What RTK has to say
It is reassuring to see Jürgen Klopp back Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international has managed just 14 minutes in all competitions this season, questions about his happiness and future are inevitable.
The gaffer is spot on with his verdict that Shaq is an important player for us. Last season we saw him come off the bench to score twice against Manchester United in a 3-1 victory.
Going into a busy winter period he will certainly be called upon and his quality will shine through. There aren’t many teams in the Premier League that have players of Shaqiri’s quality just warming the bench; he is a versatile and talented rotation option.
With Jürgen so confident in the midfielder’s importance to the side, it is unlikely we will see him move on any time soon.
