Liverpool have one of the most potent attacking forces in the world. Jürgen Klopp’s front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is enough to terrify any defence. The Reds attack may be about to get a whole lot more frightening with rumours of a Liverpool bid for Timo Werner, according to Ian McGarry on The Transfer Window Podcast.
Werner has been sought after by Europe’s top clubs for years and is valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt. He first burst onto the scene at VFB Stuttgart before moving to RB Leipzig. In his first full season at Leipzig he netted an incredible 21 goals in 28 games. Still at Leipzig, and still just 23-years-old, the German international has been in impressive form this campaign, scoring six in nine games.
Transfer expert McGarry revealed on the podcast: “we understand that contact has been made and indeed is ongoing between Liverpool and the Bundesliga side”.
If Liverpool bid for Timo Werner it could be a massive step forward for the side. He is a perfect fit for Jürgen Klopp. RB Leipzig play a similarly intense, high pressing game, meaning Werner would have little trouble adapting to the Anfield style of play.
The German is a deadly finisher with lightning pace, he would offer an entirely different proposition to Roberto Firmino. The Red’s number nine has carved out his own role which is far from the traditional role of a nine, he lies a lot deeper and lays on chances for his teammates; Werner is more likely to sit on the shoulder of the last man and beat them for pace. Klopp needs a plan B up top, if Liverpool bid for Timo Werner, Jürgen may just have it.
